Frequently Asked Questions About Live Music

What is the difference between your duos, trios and larger groups.
A: Our duo includes John and Gary with piano/trumpet, guitar/bass, and vocals plus our studio instruments that allows the addition of both drums and bass and just about anything else neccesary. The duo format provides the sound of a much larger band and is the perfect choice for smaller venues, dinner music or where classy background music is needed.

Our trio adds either a drummer, bass player, or female vocalist.

Our quartet adds both live drums and bass. Our larger groups also allow us to add a featured male or female vocalist or a sax. As the size of the group increases the music becomes more dynamic and with events featuring dancing we would recommend booking our quartet (at a minimum).

Q: We are considering a DJ but would really rather have a band?

A: Many of our clients are surprised to learn that live music is often in a price range competitive with a DJ. With a DJ you get a sound system and someone to play the same material available on your iPOD.

With our smallest group you get a high quality sound system, a live grand piano (sampled digital), live guitar, bass, drums, and vocals plus we can provide all the services provided by a DJ including playing CDs and party mixes of your favorite tunes.

We can also handle any Host and Master of Ceremonies duties you desire. We can also provide a wireless mic for toasts, speeches and announcements by members of you group. When performing for weddings we have found that a combination of our live music plus your recorded favorites provide the best solution for events with a range of ages. We typically use the recorded music for breaks or toward the end of the event.

Q: Sound UnLimited seems to charge more than some other bands. Why?

A: We are a premium group. To us that means no compromises - period. The size of the group says nothing about quality. The most important factor is the musicians we hire – every band member is a top tier musician or vocalist. Our reputation, experience and contacts allow us to hire only the best in St. Louis – great musicians deserve to be paid accordingly. To sound great you need great equipment and we believe that our equipment provides the best live sound available – we have invested thousands of dollars in this effort. Compare any of our bands with other bands with one or two musicians more than ours – we think you will be surprised. We specialize in and our strength is with combos up to five or six pieces. If you really need a big band we can refer you to some of our favorite big bands – there are some fine groups available.

Q: We are planning a party at a Country Cub and we are wondering if you will use the club’s piano – we’re not sure if it’s in tune.

A: We rarely use the instrument provided at a club, hotel, banquet center, etc. because they are almost always out of tune, unplayable and don’t do justice to the quality of our group. John is a piano tuner and is very particular about the sound of his instrument. He brings his full 88 digital keyboard with a weighted action.

The same goes for the sound system and microphone. To maintain consistent quality we bring all of our own equipment. We need a minimum of 1 hour to set up and electricity available where the band sets up.

Q: We need to have music in multiple locations. We would like to have cocktails in the bar area and dance music in the dining room of our country club. Can you handle this?

A: Yes we often provide multiple setups typically with a smaller group before the main part of the event. We recommend our duo for cocktails and our quartet (or larger) for dancing. A multiple set up may cost more because of the time required to set up and move the equipment but is a cost effective option.
